as we continue our work with discourse communities and how they fit into our culture and society, I will challenge my students to think critically about the communities they identify with. i want them to consider both what they stand for and what their communities stand for. 

for the argumentative assignment in ENGL 1101, my students will construct and support an argument about a widely discussed topic or issue that is represented by their discourse community.
