major assignment: discourse community personal narrative

as an English major, i struggled with narrative and personal writing, though i eventually figured it out (with the help of Joan Didion and Annie Dillard). then, as a writing center tutor, i read many personal narratives that were painful to read (for a myriad of reasons). 

i want both my students and i to enjoy the narrative unit when i teach ENGL 1101. so, with this narrative assignment, i'm giving my students the opportunity to talk about their passions, hobbies, and interests through a discourse community narrative.
